Simple Ways to Fix the Most Common Problems with Window Blinds on Homes in the Wichita, KS, Area

How to Fix Common Problems with Window Blinds Wichita KSWindow blinds are an essential component of your home in Wichita, Kansas. They can control the amount of natural lighting you want shinning into your home during the day and restrict the view into your residence from outside. So, when your blinds start to show signs of wear and tear, your first inclination might be to simply replace them altogether. However, there is another way that might save you money and hassle in the long. If you have even just a little time, then you can easily repair your window blinds and forgo an expensive full-scale replacement. Here are some common window blind problems and the best and most effective ways to fix them.

The Window Blinds Will Not Lower Down

First, make the lift cords even with the headrail and pull to release the cord lock. If the cord lock does not release, then locate the small pin inside the cord lock mechanism. Once located, push in the pin with a butter knife or flathead screwdriver to release the slats. You should then be able to lower the blinds down with ease.

The Slats Will Not Tilt Properly

If the tilt rod twists but the slats don’t move, then locate the metal rod in the headrail. Depending on your window type and style, to locate the metal rod in the headrail, you may need to remove the blind from the window. Once you have located the metal rod, find where the tilt mechanism is housed and push the tilt rod back into the tilt mechanism. The blind should then tilt properly again.

A Broken Slat Requires Replacing

To replace your broken slats, remove the ladder cap from the bottom rail and pull out the exposed cords slightly. Next, cut the cords just above the knots and pull the cords up through the damaged slat. Remove the broken slat and replace it with a new one. Then, align the new slat with the old ones. Once that is complete, weave the cords back down through the holes, alternating sides of the ladder rungs as you go. Lastly, insert the cords back into the bottom rail and retie the knots you cut before replacing the caps. That should do the trick.

The Wand Tilter Needs Replacing

To replace the wand tilter, first remove the blind from the window. Next, remove the wand from the blind, as well as the metal end brace or plastic cap from the headrail. From there, remove the tilt rod from the wand tilter. Next, replace the tilter and snap it back into place. Turn the tilter shaft to line up the flat parts of the rod lines and tilter. Finally, push the rod back through the tilter before replacing the brace/cap. You should then have a fully functional wand tilter.
